Some common questions and answers are and if your answer isn't here, email info@mcscnj.com :

How do I sign up? Attend an evaluation. There are specific evaluation days for during the season, early bird's in by late July and if there's availability, additional days in September.

Are they tryouts? We like to think of them as evaluations. Once you're a member, you stay a member (except for some obvious ways of getting kicked off a team). You don't need to tryout every year. With the evaluations, if you're a good listener and you try your best (as determined solely by the coaches), we have availability and the coach, swimmer and parent agree, then you're a member! Using the same guidelines, we'll take in all family members too.

Do I have to have to come to practice on the days I sign up for? The days you sign up for practicing are your planned practice days. We know there will be scheduling conflicts during the year but you won't get better unless you practice. I'll bet you've heard that a few times! Well, we believe it and encourage swimmers to make up their missed practice days. You can come in for a make-up on the day and at the pool that's convenient, without informing anyone. The coaches know who you are and take attendance anyway, so we can keep track of pool usage. If you need to change a planned practice day, then you need to contact us and we'll switch the planned day (again, to monitor pool usage).

Do I have to attend meets (all, some, any, both days, etc)? Meets are optional. If you want to attend meets, provide your availability (via email or form on web site). You can choose the meets you'd like to attend and since meets are normally both weekend days, you can choose to attend only one day of the meet. Follow up question, When do I have to tell you my availability? There are over 8,000 swimmers in NJ, so when meets are posted, they can close out quickly. We like to send in our meet entries as soon as meet information becomes available, which could be 2-3 months in advance. It's not always easy to plan, but that's what we need to do to get in the meets. If a meet has availability and you decide you want to attend and tell us a couple of weeks before the meet, we will attempt to get you entered. It depends on the meet host and other factors. You don't pay extra for meet fees but if you sign up for a meet and then scratch out due to something other than sickness or injury, you will owe "scratch fees".

Can I sign up for just a few months? If your goals can be accomplished that way, like signing up for our Spring Training for Summer League to get in shape, and the club has availability, that's fine. You can also sign up for just one month or two, like some High School swimmers do, to get ready for their HS season. Preference is given to those members signing up for the most time.

Will the coaches help correct stroke technique? Yes, that's one of the many reasons they're there. It's not lessons, like just doing drills. It's about making the swimmer more confident, working on a combination of stroke technique and endurance. The coach provides group and individualized instruction. But, even as I need to remind myself sometimes, all swimmers learn at a different pace and pick things up when their brains and bodies are ready to.

How much does it cost? Well, that all depends on the amount of time you're signing up for. We encourage you to download the registration form that shows the cost information or view our programs page which shows cost info towards the bottom of the page. The MCSC doesn't have additional Fee requirements beyond the Fees shown on the registration form. If you compete in meets, there's the cost of competiton suits and goggles too. For practices, there's required fins, caps for long hair, and some other miscellaneous equipment.USS and NJ Swimming Registration and meet fees are included.

What if my swimmer wants to quit, do I owe for the full year? You only are financially committed up through the current month that you contact us via email. You can add months or take them away and you can also add or take away practice days during the swim year.

How competitive is it? How competitive do you want to be? It's not the club nor the coaches goals that are important ... well, maybe they are too, but what's important are your swimmers goals. We have a wide range of swimmers and if you want to swim to stay in shape or because your parents want you to, that's fine and there's a place for you. If you're at the other end of  the spectrum and you have Olympic dreams, we have a lot of those swimmers too.You choose your practice schedule based on your goals. If you have big dreams, then you can practice 5 to 7 days a week and even do double sessions. The coaches base the practices on the swimmers in their lanes and even set up multiple paces within the same swimmer Levels as needed.
