Harris Swims to 1st Place
Stephanie Harris of Denville and the
Morris County Swim Club earned a 1st Place victory in the
Bronze W9Yr Old 500 Freestyle event at the NJ Swimming Silver/Bronze
Championship meet. NJ Swimming splits times into three levels, Gold,
Silver and Bronze. Athletes compete in their events within these
designations, based on their personal best times.
Harris dropped 23.82 seconds from her
previous time to finish the 500 Freestyle in 7:46.23. This victory
caps an excellent year for Harris who also earned a 3rd
Place in the 50 Free in 35.04, a 5th Place in the 100
Breast in 1:40.62, 6th Place for the 200 Free in 2:55.21,
8th Place in the 50 Breast in 46.38 and a 14th
Place in the 100 Free, finishing in 1:23.79. Harris has been with the
MCSC for 2 seasons.
Also from Denville, Molly Shaffer set
new Best Times in 2 of her events. Shaffer dropped 2.84 seconds to
finish the W9 50 Breast in 1:00.27 and sliced 5.92 in the 50 Fly to
finish 1:02.65. She also competed in the 50 Free with a time of
47.98. This is Shaffer’s first Short Course season with the MCSC
and recently aged-up into the 9-10 Age Group.
Jay DeAlessi of Kinnelon dropped 7.45
in the M10 100 Back for an 8th Place finish in a time of
1:55.13.
Jamie Viotto of Morris Township led the
MCSC boys with a 1st Place and Gold time in the M10 Bronze
500 Free. The Gold time qualified Viotto for the NJ Swimming Junior
Olympics in Marach at Rutgers University. Taylor Good from Jefferson
followed up Harris’ 500 with a 3rd Place finish in the
W9 500 Free in 8:53.16. 22 athletes competed for the Morris County

Trinco Swims 3 for 3 at Champs Meet
Charlie Trinco improved her times in
all 4 events entered at the NJ Swimming 9-10 Silver/Bronze
Championships. NJ Swimming splits times into three levels, Gold,
Silver and Bronze. Athletes compete in their events within these
designations, based on their personal best times.
Trinco cut 3.87 in the W9 50 Breast in
51.36, 1.54 in the 50 Free in 44.57 and finished the 50 Back in
54.82. She also broke the 2-minute barrier in the 100 IM with a
1:59.48, snipping .34 off her time.
Matt Linz scored 4th and 5th
Place finishes and cut time in 4 of 6 events, 3 Silver. Linz earned a
7th Place 40.93 M10 50 Fly, 15th Place 34.04 50
Free and 17th Place 1:16.92 100 Free, all Silver. He
scored a 4th Place 500 Free in 7:45.12 and dropped 2.46 in
his 50 Breast to 49.84 and .11 in the 50 Back to 44.98.
Catherine Barrow continued her
improvements this season, dropping time in 4 of 6 events. She cut
4.26 in the W10 200 Free to finish 3:16.30, good for a 6th
Place in the Bronze category. She sliced time off in 3 other events,
the 50 Free, 100 Free and 50 Back. She has been with the MCSC since
it’s inception 1 ½ years ago. The MCSC has 180 members.

At the NJ Swimming 9-10 Silver/Bronze
Championships, Jamie Viotto of Morris Township led the Morris County
Swim Club with a 1st Place and Gold time in the M10 Bronze
500 Free. The Gold time qualified Viotto for the NJ Swimming Junior

into three levels, Gold, Silver and Bronze. Athletes compete in their

Viotto scored the victory with a time
of 7:03.54, dropping 46.51 seconds from his previous personal best.
He earned another JO berth with a Gold Time and 2nd Place
in the M10 100 Free, cutting off 1.18 to finish 1:12.41. Viotto
dropped time in 3 other events entered. He cut .28 for an 8th
Place in the 100 Back in 1:29.76, snipped .14 in the 50 Back to
finish 41.45 and took off .89 in the 50 Fly to earn 9th
Place in 41.17. This is Viotto’s 2nd year with the MCSC.
Also from Morris Township, Nicole Rose
chopped 6.12 in the W9 50 Free to finish in 1:39.93.
From Morristown, Ellen O’Donnell
dropped time in 4 of 6 events at the meet. She swam the W10 50 Breast
in 50.17 dropping 5.24, a 41.09 50 Free .64 better, 1:29.41 100 Free
slicing 10.64 and 1:43.41 100IM cutting 3.06. Gabrielle Ferrara
dropped time in her 3 events. She earned a 1:02.18 in the W10 50
Breast improving by 1.91, a 45.84 50 Fly a drop of 3.53 and .14
better in the 50 Free with a time of 38.91. Erin Hession improved in
3 of 6 events. She swam 7.03 better in the W9 50 Breast in 48.96, a
.84 improvement in the 100 Free in 1:24.52 and a whopping 50.77
improvement in the 100IM to finish 1:38.28. Mary Reilly also improved
in 3 of 6 events with a 37.32 W10 50 Free trimming .76, dropping 2.89
in the 100 Breast in 1:51.43 and a 1:23.98 100 Free .06 better. Julia
Hall cut tim in 2 of 3 of her events. She earned a 5th
Place Bronze in the W9 100 Free in 1:21.19 a 2.51 improvement and
finished 2.31 better with a 1:39.26 100IM. Kathryn Zangari swam the
W10 50 Back in 48.36, an improvement of 2.05. All of the Morristown
swimmers are in their 1st year with the MCSC.
From Morris Plains, Shannon Keller
improved in 2 of 3 events, both earning Silver Time ststus. Keller
cut 3.37 for a 2:56.93 W9 200 Free, and 1.22 in the W100 Back for a
1:33.19.
From Convent Station Fara Cohen dropped
time in 4 of her 6 entered events. She swam the W9 50 Breast in 50.73
cutting .77, 50 Fly in 45.25 dropping 3.48, 100 Free in 1:31.01
trimming .82 and slicing 3.43 form the 100 IM to finish 1:40.47.
